Tom Coupé
Attorney
Tom Coupé brings over two decades of dedicated legal experience to the practice of family law. A graduate of the University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Tom earned his Juris Doctor from Southern Illinois University School of Law in 2003. During law school, he distinguished himself as a member of the National Moot Court Team, served as student body vice president, and was inducted into the prestigious Order of Barristers for excellence in oral advocacy.
Admitted to the Tennessee Bar in 2003, Tom began his career as Assistant General Counsel for the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services, where he served in Shelby, Rutherford, and Williamson Counties. He later contributed his expertise as a Court Improvement Attorney for the Tennessee Administrative Office of the Courts, focusing on enhancing the quality of juvenile and family court practices across the state.
Since 2007, he has served the Juvenile Court of Memphis and Shelby County in multiple capacities, including as Administrator over the Child Welfare Division and as a Juvenile Magistrate, presiding over cases involving some of the most vulnerable members of the community.
He is certified by the National Association of Counsel for Children as a Child Welfare Law Specialist and is a Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 31 listed Family Mediator. Tom is also a member of the National Association of Counsel for Children, the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, and the Memphis Bar Association.
Outside the courtroom, Tom values time with his wife and two children and enjoys giving back to the community by coaching middle school cross country at Maxine Smith STEAM Academy.
