How We Work
If You Need a Lawyer
To get started, you will need to contact our office at (901) 527-2000 for an appointment. We will schedule you an appointment to discuss your needs and to help you understand the process. The best course is to understand your rights and options that you can expect from the legal process before you fully decide which direction to take. If you are undecided about what to do next, then we will provide you information and answer your questions to inform your decision-making process.
If you are unsure, rest assured that we will never pressure you to go forward with any legal action. We believe in informed decision-making and in being strategic in planning your next steps. We want to be your partner in planning your next steps and in moving forward. We know that our partnership works best with you when we thoroughly communicate with each other. We are committed to being effective communicators.
Once we are retained, we begin the steps necessary to move your family conflict toward resolution. Sometimes that resolution is by a trial by a judge, but more often it is by mediated or negotiated settlements. We communicate by mail, email, and phone. We will help you gather the necessary information to begin decision-making process. We will give you advice and recommendations on negotiation and trial strategy, and we will vigorously and professionally represent you at mediation and at trial, if necessary.
Consultations and Retaining Our Services
If you are interested in a consultation and retaining our services, then please contact our office at 901-527-2000. Consultations are generally charged in one-hour increments, and the cost depends on the hourly rate of the attorney.
During the initial consultation, our team will determine an appropriate retainer depending on the facts of your case. Should you decide to move forward with representation, a contract will be signed, and the retainer will be due at that time.
Once the attorney has been retained, time spent on your case will be charged in increments (1/10th of an hour), detailed in a monthly invoice, and billed against your retainer until depleted. Upon depletion, the attorney may ask for another retainer or simply provide monthly invoices for payment.
We encourage open dialogue with our clients about attorney fees and billing, as we realize that can be a source of anxiety and confusion.
At Mullins, Whitfield, White & Hillis, we understand that family matters are deeply personal and important. Whether you're navigating a difficult time or planning for the future, our dedicated team is here to offer compassionate and professional support.
